Pulp Nonfiction Endo Study Club

Preserving the Pulp: A Paradigm Shift in Endodontics

Register HERE

Vital pulp therapy techniques have been widely utilized in endodontics to treat immature permanent teeth following trauma or carious exposures. These techniques, referred to broadly as “apexogenesis,” have a documented history of success. More recently, these techniques have also been applied in the care of mature permanent teeth. Thanks to bioceramic materials, the predictability of these procedures in mature permanent teeth approaches that of immature teeth with appropriate case selection. In this course, participants will learn the scope of vital pulp therapy in the permanent dentition.

The course will be presented virtually on Thursday, December 14 from 6:30 p.m. Register at Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link. Please include your AGD number, if appropriate.

Participants will:

●      Understand the utilization of vital pulp therapy techniques in immature permanent teeth.

●      Recognize the utility of bioceramic materials in vital pulp therapy procedures

●      Apply vital pulp therapy techniques in mature permanent teeth

Upon completion of the course, participants will understand the application of vital pulp therapy techniques with bioceramic materials in the care of both immature and mature permanent teeth.

Following the course, participants will receive access to an online portal containing course content and cited research and literature.

The non-surgical management of periodontal disease will be discussed based on the principles of cause-related therapy. Along with the etiologic factor, the major and minor contorting factors of periodontal diseases will be reviewed. The new periodontal disease diagnosis & classification system will be reviewed with an emphasis on its practical utilization in everyday clinical practice. The talk will be finished by reviewing a series of patient cases, in which their periodontal diseases were successfully managed non-surgically.

The course will be presented virtually on November 10, at 6:30 p.m. EST. Please register at Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link. Please include your AGD number, if appropriate.

Course Objectives

1. Understand the prevalence, epidemiology and natural history of periodontal diseases.

2. Identify the etiologic and potential contributing factors of periodontal diseases.

3. Apprehend the principles of cause-related therapy and apply them in managing patients with periodontal

Pulp Nonfiction Endo Study Club: Antibiotic Stewardship

Antibiotic Stewardship in the Management of Endodontic Infections

Antibiotics are incredibly useful tools in the management of endodontic infections. That said, their overuse and misuse in dentistry and beyond have caused a dramatic increase in the rates of antibiotic resistance. Once manageable infections, in some cases, have been rendered untreatable. This presentation will not only introduce how endodontic infections are diagnosed, but will more importantly examine situations that may benefit from antibiotic therapy and those where antibiotics may not be necessary. Additionally, antibiotic premedication strategies will be reviewed. Employing these evidence-based strategies will preserve the utility of these life saving drugs for years, and patients, to come.

The course will be presented virtually on Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. Register at Eventbrite . Please include your AGD number, if appropriate.

Course Objectives

  • Define antibiotic stewardship and discuss its necessity

  • Review the diagnosis of orofacial infections

  • DIscuss indications and contraindications for antibiotic therapy in the management of endodontic infections

  • Discuss antibiotic premedication

Upon completion of the course, participants will possess an understanding of evidence-based best practices for antibiotic prescription in the management of endodontic infections.

Following the course, participants will receive access to an online portal containing course content and cited research and literature.

Pulp Nonfiction Endo Study Club: The Endo-Restorative Relationship

The Endo Restorative Relationship

Endodontics doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Not only does restorative care impact the dentin-pulp complex, a history of endodontic treatment itself can directly impact restorative care. This module will focus on the intersection between endodontics and restorative dentistry. This Zoom webinar course will review the impact of restorative factors on the dental pulp, as well as the ways in which endodontic treatment impact restorative treatment plans. Finally, we’ll review an evidence-based framework to aid decision making between retaining or extracting compromised teeth. .

The course will be presented virtually on Thursday, March 24 from 6:30 p.m. Register at Eventbrite. Please include your AGD number, if appropriate.

Participants will:

  • Understand the impact of restorative care on the dental pulp

  • Comprehend an evidence-based rationale for the restoration of endodontically treated teeth

  • Recognize proper post selection in cases where they are indicated

  • Understand an evidence-based framework for retention versus extraction of compromised teeth.

Upon completion of the course, participants will understand the interrelationship between restorative care and endodontic treatment, and will better appreciate treatment planning considerations for compromised teeth under endodontic consideration.

Following the course, participants will receive access to an online portal containing course content and cited research and literature.

Pulp Nonfiction Endo Study Club: Cracks and Fractures in the Permanent Dentition

Cracks and fractures represent a common etiology of endodontic disease.  They present in otherwise healthy mouths, due to trauma or parafunction, as well as in patients with significant restorative histories due to weakened coronal structure.  Their diagnosis can be challenging given inconsistent or irregular symptoms and their difficult visualization and radiographic detection.  Failure to diagnose fractures, however, can directly lead to needless pain and infection.

This Zoom webinar course, presented by Pulp Nonfiction Endodontics, we’ll approach cracks and fractures first by definition, reviewing their clinical and radiographic presentations, and discuss comprehensive evidence-based management strategies, including an algorithm for managing unseparated cracks in unrestored or minimally restored teeth.

The course will be presented on Thursday, January 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. Register at Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link. Please include your AGD number, if appropriate.

Participants will:

· Recognize the diagnostic terminology that allows for proper differentiation of pathologic fractures

· Review the diagnostic aids for detection of fractures

· Understand appropriate evidence-based management strategies for fracture management

· Detail an algorithm for the management of cracks of unknown depth

Upon completion of the course, participants will possess an up to date, evidence-based, systematic approach to fracture diagnosis and treatment.

Following the course, participants will receive access to an online portal containing course content and cited research and literature.

Diagnosis in 3D: CBCT in Endodontics

Register at Eventbrite, Zoom link will be emailed following registration.

Our ability to diagnose endodontic disease is limited by the accuracy of the information we gather on our patients. Two dimensional intraoral radiography represented a significant limitation in diagnosis due to its inherent limitations. The advent of CBCT technology has revolutionized endodontic diagnosis and treatment by overcoming the limitations of two dimensions. This Zoom webinar course, presented jointly by Pulp Nonfiction Endodontics and Dr. Michael Melkers Seminars (Nationally approved PACE provider for FAGD/MAGD credit) , will review an up-to-date, evidence-based systematic approach to the use of CBCT technology endodontics.

The course will be presented Thursday, October 7 from 7-8 p.m.

Participants will:

· Understand the limitations of two-dimensional radiography

· Review the basics of CBCT imaging and interpretation

· Understand the limitations of CBCT imaging

· Examine the utility of CBCT imaging in the diagnosis of endodontic pathology and in the facilitation of endodontic treatment.

Upon completion of the course, participants will understand the basics CBCT imaging and its interpretation and utilization. Furthermore, participants will recognize when CBCT imaging should be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of endodontic pathology.

Following the course, participants will receive access to an online portal containing course content and cited research and literature.
